A Prayer for Those Who Grieve
Father of all comfort … We lift before You today those whose hearts are heavy with loss. There are empty chairs at tables, silences where laughter once filled the room, and aches that no human word can reach. Grief is a weight that presses upon the soul in ways that are difficult to carry and even harder to speak of.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18, NIV)
You are not distant from our sorrow, Lord. You are near — closer than our very breath. You are the God who wept at the tomb of Lazarus, who bore the weight of every grief upon the cross. You know the sting of loss and the ache of separation. And so we ask that You would draw especially close to those who grieve this day.
Wrap them in Your tender mercy. Give them strength for the hour that is before them. Remind them that death does not have the final word — that because of Christ, there is a reunion that awaits, a restoration that no grave can prevent. Until that glorious day, be their comfort, their refuge, and their hope.
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” (Revelation 21:4, NIV)
Amen.
