A Prayer for Thankfulness
Dear Father … How easily we forget the abundance of Your goodness. The morning light that greets us, the breath that fills our lungs, the faces of those You have placed alongside us in this journey — each one a gift from Your generous hand. And yet we so often pass through our days without pausing to give thanks.
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18, NIV)
Forgive us, Lord, for the blindness of ungrateful hearts. Open our eyes to see Your faithful provision in the small and ordinary things — in the warmth of a shared meal, in the changing colors of the sky at dusk, in the kindness of a friend, in the stillness after the storm has passed. These are not small things. They are the evidence of Your steadfast love poured out upon us day after day.
Teach us to cultivate thankfulness not only when the harvest is plentiful, but in the seasons of waiting and in the long stretches of the ordinary. May gratitude be the posture of our hearts, and may our thanksgiving bring glory to Your holy name. Amen.
